Tashi Choden Chombal was crowned Miss Bhutan 2022 on June 4, 2022, at the Bhutan Broadcasting Service in Thimphu. Now she’ll go on to represent Bhutan at Miss Universe 2022. Recently, UN Bhutan and UNFPA Bhutan invited Bhutan’s newly crowned queen to participate in a panel discussion at Paro College of Education titled “Rainbow Dialogues: Coming to Terms with Gender and Sexual Diversity.”

Tashi Choden Chombal Age, Family, Early Life

This year’s Nagaland representative at Miss Bhutan will be 23 years old. Her mother is a native of Bhutan, and her father comes from Tibet. They share a common upbringing in Nagaland. Indeed, she was born in Bhutan and holds dual citizenship with that country. She comes from a family that is both Bhutanese and Tibetan. No one can pinpoint her exact birthday or astrological sign. After her parents passed away when she was 14 years of age, she was taken in by her maternal aunt and grandmother in Wangdue, Bhutan.

On June 9, Dr. Karma Phuntsho hosted a one-off session of Bhutan Dialogues. She was accompanied by Gender Advocate Ms. Regita Gurung and UNFPA Office Chief Mr. Phuntsho Wangyel. An integral component of Tashi’s presentation was her exploration of her gender-fluid status. After being crowned Miss Supermodel Worldwide Bhutan 2019, Tashi Choden placed in the top 15 at the global competition.

A potential Miss Universe candidate, she exudes confidence, strength, and enthusiasm. Chombal placed in the top two at the Miss Citadel Pune 2017 pageant, which was won by Priya Singh. Chombal represented Bhutan at this year’s Miss Asia competition. There were twenty-four other contestants, but she emerged victorious as Miss Congeniality. Chombal competed against 26 other women for the 2019 title of Miss Supermodel Worldwide. She competed for Bhutan and placed 15th overall.

Chombal came out to her family as lesbian on June 2, 2021, in honour of International Pride Day. According to an interview published by The Bhutanese, Chombal revealed that she came out as bisexual on Facebook. As one participant in the study put it, “Doing the study confirmed my suspicions that I am a woman who is comfortable in her own skin and finds other women attractive.” Chombal will represent Bhutan at Miss Universe 2022, the date and location of which have not yet been announced.
